Prof. Dr. Erkan Türkmenwas born at Peshawar (Pakistan) in 1943. His ancestork came from Turkmenistan (Merv). In 1961 he migrated to Turkey. Prof. Türkmen is a multi - linguist and has command over Turkish (Ottoman Turkish), Urdu, English, persian, Arabic, Pashto, Panjabi and Turkic dialects. He is founding chairman of the Department of Eastern Languages and Literatures since 1985 at Seljuk University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Konya.The first three chapters of this book tends to reveal Rumis life, environment, works and thoughts from some fresh and new angles. The rest of the chapters cover Rumis best verses selected from his magnum opus the Masnevi (in six volumes). The verses are quoted in original Persian text along with their literal and syntheses of commentaries.His style is a blend of lucidity and grace and is compatible to its subject matter. His place in the annals of intellectualism would notbe disputed even by the most ardent of his critics.
